A man has been charged with weapons offences following an alleged pursuit in Sydney's east.
Just before 12am yesterday, (Monday 19 January 2026), officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command were conducting routine patrols on General Holmes Drive, Mascot, when they observed a car allegedly speeding through a 40km/h roadworks zone.
The driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, and a pursuit was initiated.
The vehicle continued onto Foreshore Drive, where it hit a pole.
The 30-year-old driver was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken under police guard to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.
At 4:40am today, (Tuesday 20 January 2026), the man was released into police custody and taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with four offences,
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
- Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority
- Refuse or fail to submit to taking of blood sample
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Court Division 7 today, Tuesday 20 January 2026.
