Police Charge Man After Pursuit At Gunnedah

A man will face court charged after a pursuit in the states west overnight.

About 1.15am today (Saturday 20 September 2025), police attached to Oxley Police District attempted to stop a ute on the Kamilaroi Highway, north of Gunnedah.

When the vehicle did not stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle continued onto Quia Road, Gunnedah, before conducting a U-turn and traveling towards the Kamilaroi Highway.

The pursuit ended a short time later, when the vehicle left the roadway near Mathias Road and crashed into a tree.

The occupants fled the scene; however, the driver – a 32-year-old man – was arrested.

Following the arrest police searched the vehicle locating a number of items which have been seized for forensic examination.

The 32-year-old was taken to Gunnedah Police Station and charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended and negligent driving.

He was granted condition bail to appear before Gunnedah Local Court on Tuesday 7 October 2025.
