Police Charge Man After Pursuit At Taree

A man has been charged following a police pursuit on the state's mid-north coast.

About 11.40pm last night (Tuesday 3 March 2026), police were patrolling Manning River Drive, Taree, when they attempted to stop a Ford hatchback.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, the hatchback and a police vehicle collided on Waang Djarii Way, Purfleet.

Two male officers were treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for minor injuries. They have since been discharged.

The driver of the hatchback, a 58-year-old man, was taken to Port Macquarie Hospital for the treatment of head, back and arm injuries.

At 7.30pm today (Wednesday 4 March 2026), the man was charged whilst under police guard at Port Macquarie Hospital for:

  • Police Pursuit (2nd offence),
  • Drive manner dangerous (2nd offence) and
  • Drive motor vehicle whilst disqualified (2nd offence)

He was refused bail and will appear before Bail Division Court 1, tomorrow, Thursday 5 March 2026.

He remains under police guard.
