A man will face court charged after an alleged pursuit in Sydney's southwest yesterday.
About 9pm yesterday (Wednesday 20 May 2026), police sighted a vehicle travelling on Debrincat Avenue, Whalan.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command - Strike Force Puma, attempted to stop the vehicle on Wilkes Crescent; however, when the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.
The pursuit continued through local streets in Mt Druitt before road spikes were successfully deployed at the intersection of Jersey Road and Hyatts Road, Mt Druitt.
Despite the deployment, the vehicle continued along Richmond Road, after which the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.
The vehicle came to a stop a short distance away and the driver was allegedly seen running from the vehicle and jumping fences of properties backing onto Summerland Drive, Colebee.
With assistance from PolAir and the Dog Squad, the driver - a 31-year-old man - was arrested.
He was taken to hospital for assessment and, today (Thursday 21 May 2026), the man was charged with eight offences:
- Police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously
- Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period
- Drive conveyance taken without consent of owner
- Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed
- Goods suspected stolen in or on premises (not motor vehicle)
- Goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (not motor vehicle)
- Possess housebreaking implements, and
- Commit s114 offence, having previous conviction.
He was refused bail to appear at Mount Druitt Local Court tomorrow (Friday 22 May 2026).
