Police Charge Man After Pursuit North Of Wollongong

A man has been charged following an alleged pursuit in the Illawarra.

About 7pm yesterday (Monday 26 January 2026), officers attached to the Southern Operations Support Group detected an unregistered motorcycle on Girvan Crescent, Corrimal, allegedly travelling in excess of 50km/hr of the signposted speed limit.

Officers caught up to the motorcycle as he entered the Princes Highway, Corrimal.

Police attempted to stop the motorcycle, when the rider allegedly failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

Police will allege the motorcyclist reached speeds of up to 90km/hr in a 60km/hr signposted zone, before the motorcycle came to a stop on Highlands Parade, Bulli at the end of a cul-de-sac.

The rider allegedly dropped the motorcycle and fled into nearby bushland, before he was arrested, following a short foot pursuit.

The 48-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Police Station.

He was charged with police pursuit -not stop-drive recklessly, never licensed person drive vehicle on road and use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle.

He was refused bail and appeared in Bail Division Court 3 today (Tuesday 27 January 2026), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 3 February 2026.
