Police Charge Man After Seabrook Carjacking And Crash

Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man wanted following a carjacking and serious crash in Seabrook last week.

Officers patrolling a Hoppers Crossing shopping centre as part of Operation Pulse spotted and quickly arrested the man at the premises on Derrimut and Heaths roads about 2.30pm yesterday.

It follows an alleged carjacking and subsequent crash in Seabrook on Tuesday 3 March.

Emergency services were called to reports a car had crashed into a tree and split into two on Point Cook Road about 1am.

Police will allege the vehicle was stolen at Laverton Railway Station minutes before it negotiated a roundabout at a fast rate of speed, struck a gutter and crashed into a tree.

The 2011 Toyota Kluger was destroyed, and the driver fled the scene.

A 19-year-old Lara man was arrested today and has since been charged with a number of offences, including:

  • carjacking
  • tamper with motor vehicle
  • attempted theft of motor vehicle
  • reckless conduct endangering life
  • reckless conduct endangering serious injury
  • drive at speed dangerous
  • careless driving
  • fail to report accident to police
  • drive whilst disqualified.

He will appear before Wyndham Magistrates' Court on 12 March.
