A man has been charged following a siege in Sydney's inner west yesterday.
About 12.20pm yesterday (Tuesday 14 July 2026), emergency services were called to Wells Street, Newtown, following reports of a concern for welfare.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended the scene and found a man on a roof, who allegedly refused to come down.
Officers from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit and Negotiation Unit were called and police established a perimeter.
The 35-year-old man jumped across multiple residential rooftops before he got down.
When he was being treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, he allegedly attempted to leave the scene and damaged a NSW Ambulance van and other vehicles nearby.
The man was arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, under police guard, for an assessment.
About 2.15pm the same day, he was released from the hospital and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with four counts of destroy or damage property, and nine counts of enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse.
He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 today (Wednesday 15 July 2026).
