Police charge man after siege incident at Wollongong

A man will face court today after he was charged following a siege near Wollongong yesterday.

About 11am (Tuesday 1 June 2021), police approached a 39-year-old man on Robert Cram Drive at Bellambi allegedly in breach of his bail.

Police will allege in court the man produced a knife and threatened them before running into a nearby house and locking himself inside.

Two females were inside at the time; they were not being held against their will.

About 2.30pm, the man walked out of the home voluntarily.

He was arrested and taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with intimidate police officer in execution of duty, resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and armed with intent commit indictable offence.

He was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 2 June 2021).
