Police charge man after theft of tow truck

Armed Crime Squad detectives have charged a 35-year-old man after he allegedly stole a tow truck between 27 and 30 September.

He was charged with 26 offences, including intentionally and recklessly expose emergency worker to risk by manner of driving, reckless conduct endangering life, driving in a manner dangerous, dangerous driving, reckless driving causing damage to emergency vehicle, theft, attempted theft, obtaining property by deception, bail offences and criminal damage.

The Footscray West man remains in hospital and has been bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates' Court on 23 January 2020.

The charges relate to an incident where a tow truck was allegedly involved in a pursuit into Wright Street in Sunshine where it crashed into a tree.

The alleged driver was shot by police during the arrest.
