Police Charge Man For Shooting In Sydney CBD

A man has been charged following a shooting in Sydney's CBD yesterday.

About 12.50pm on Wednesday 28 February 2024, emergency services were called to a building on Castlereagh Street, Sydney CBD, following reports of a person being shot.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and found a 77-year-old man, had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and first responders, before being taken to St Vincent's Hospital for further treatment in a stable condition.

Following inquiries, a 79-year-old man was arrested and taken to Day Street Police Station.

Police also seized a rifle and ammunition following a search of his belongings.

He was charged with shoot at with intent to murder, two counts of acquire etc pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, two counts of possess loaded firearm endanger life non-public place, and two counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (29 February 2024).
