Police charge man over deliberately lit fires at Eden

A man has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting several fires on the state's far south coast.

About 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 27 November 2019), emergency services were called to several spot fires in bushland in the vicinity of Scrubby Creek, Narrabarba, south of Eden.

A man allegedly seen lighting the fires was detained by a nearby forestry worker and police were notified.

Officers from South Coast Police District attended and arrested the 33-year-old man from Victoria.

He was taken to Eden Police Station where he was charged with intentionally cause fire and be reckless as to its spread.

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court today (Thursday 28 November 2019).
