Police charge man over grooming of teenage girl at Tamworth

A man has been charged over the alleged grooming of a teenage girl in the state's northeast.

In August 2021, officers from Oxley Police District Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation following reports a netball coach was allegedly grooming a 15-year-old girl.

About 3.50pm on Tuesday 28 September 2021, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Tamworth, where police seized a mobile phone and laptop, which underwent forensic examination.

Following further enquiries, a 20-year-old man was arrested at a home in Tamworth about 3.30pm yesterday (Monday 18 October 2021).

He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with use carriage service to send indecent material to person under 16, and use carriage service-procure under 16 yrs for sexual activity.

The man was granted given conditional bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court on Monday 25 October 2021.
