Police Charge Man Over High Range PCA At Nelson Bay

A man is due to face court today over high-range drink driving in the state's north.

Just after 8.20pm yesterday (Friday 2 January 2026), officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District were on Government Road, Nelson Bay, when they located a black hatchback being driven in a dangerous manner.

A short time later, police successfully stopped the vehicle on Magnus Street, Nelson Bay.

The driver – a 33-year-old man – was subjected to a roadside breath test, which allegedly returned a positive result.

He was taken to Nelson Bay Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.280.

The 33-year-old was charged with drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive with high range PCA and illicit drug, and hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

He was later taken to Raymond Terrace Police Station and refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 2 today (Saturday 3 January 2026).
