Police charge man over house fire - Albion Park

A man will appear in court today charged over a suspicious house fire in the south of Wollongong.

Shortly before 11am on Saturday 24 June 2023, emergency services responded to reports of a house fire on Terry Street, Albion Park.

Crews from Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire; however, the building was extensively damaged.

No one was home at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation into the incident under Strike Force Cuber.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 39-year-old man outside a home in Unanderra yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 15 August 20223).

He was taken to Oak Flats Police Station where he was charged with damage property by fire/ explosives.

The man was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court later today (Wednesday 16 August 2023).
