Police charge man over murder of Vincenzo Leonello - Summer Hill

Strike force investigators have charged a man over the alleged murder of Vincenzo Leonello in Summer Hill earlier this year.

About 6.30am on Monday 7 February 2022, emergency services were called to Hardie Avenue, Summer Hill, following a concern for welfare report.

A man was located unresponsive at the scene by a member of the public, who assisted him before officers attached to Burwood Police Area Command attended and commenced CPR.

Despite their efforts, the man died at the scene.

He has since been identified as 72-year-old Vincenzo Leonello.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic officers, and Strike Force Ratsu was subsequently formed to further examine the circumstances of Mr Leonello's death.

Following extensive inquiries and public appeals for information, a 56-year-old man was arrested at a home on Smith Street at Summer Hill about 10am today (Thursday 1 December 2022).

He was taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with murder.

The man was refused bail to appear before Burwood Local Court today.
