Police Charge Man Over Pursuit In Marrickville

A man will face court over an alleged pursuit across Sydney's Inner West and Inner City.

About 2am yesterday (Tuesday 10 March 2026), officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command were patrolling on Sydenham Road, Marrickville, when they located a SUV being driven without its headlights on.

When it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle continued to Regent Street, Chippendale, where the pursuit was terminated due to the safety concerns.

Following further inquiries, with the assistance from PolAir, police located the vehicle abandoned on Glenn Street, Marrickville, after it had crashed into a parked car.

A short time later, police arrested a 25-year-old man at the rear of a home in the same street.

He was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for further assessment and mandatory testing under police guard.

Inquiries established that the man was the holder of a learner driver's licence and was also breaching bail conditions.

He was later released from the hospital and taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/ tester, not give particulars to other driver and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Bail Division Court 6 later today (Wednesday 11 March 2026).
