Police charge man over sexual act on bus - Hunter region

A man has been charged over an alleged sexual act on a bus in the Hunter region last month.

About 1.45pm on Wednesday 24 June 2020, a 16-year-old schoolgirl boarded a bus at Rotary Park, Kurri Kurri, travelling towards Heddon Greta. A man also boarded the bus and sat directly behind her.

As the bus moved away, the man leaned over the seat and held a mobile phone allegedly depicting a sexual image in front of the girl.

She got off and returned home before officers from Hunter Valley Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested a 49-year-old man on Northcote Street, Weston about 4pm yesterday (Friday 3 July 2020).

He was taken to Cessnock Police Station and charged with carry out sexual act with another without consent.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Kurri Kurri Local Court on Tuesday 11 August 2020.
