Police charge man over sexual touching of teen on bus at Wollongong

A man has been charged after allegedly indecently assaulting a teenage girl travelling on a bus in Wollongong earlier this week.

Police have been told a 16-year-old girl was sitting on a bus as it travelled along Crown Street, Wollongong, about 3.20pm on Wednesday (10 March 2021), when an unknown man allegedly indecently assaulted her.

It's further alleged that as the girl stood to exit the bus, the man attempted to stop her from passing.

The girl exited the bus on Crown Street, Wollongong, and was followed by the man for a brief period of time, before she returned home safely.

Detectives from Wollongong Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, a 43-year-old man was arrested at a unit on Crown Street, Wollongong, about 4.30pm yesterday (Thursday 11 March 2021).

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station and charged with sexually touch another person without consent, and carry out sexual act with another without consent.

The man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 12 March 2021).
