Police charge man with 15 offences after pursuit - Mt Druitt

A man has been charged with 15 offences following a pursuit through Mount Druitt overnight.

About 12.40am (Friday 8 January 2021), PolAir was conducting patrols of the Mt Druitt area when a white Honda Civic was observed travelling at high speed along Carlisle Avenue.

Officers attached to Mt Druitt Police Area Command attempted to stop the vehicle, however, the driver accelerated, turned the headlights off and began driving on the incorrect side of the road.

A pursuit commenced but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

With assistance from PolAir, the Honda was monitored through Cranebrook, Glenmore Park and Kingswood.

Following the deployment of road spikes on several occasions, the vehicle stopped on the Great Western Highway in Colyton, just after 1am.

The driver, a 24-year-old man, allegedly attempted to flee the scene on foot but was arrested a short distance away.

Checks revealed is a disqualified driver until 2037 and wanted for several other offences.

The man was taken to Mt Druitt Police Station where he has been charged with 15 offences;

• police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously

• drive conveyance taken w/o consent of owner (two counts)

• drive motor vehicle during disqualification period (three counts)

• unlawfully possess number plates (three counts)

• dishonestly obtain property by deception (two counts)

• throw thing onto road or into/onto vehicle on road

• goods in personal custody suspected being stolen (m/v)

• resist officer in execution of duty, and

• custody of knife in public place.

He was refused bail to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.

A second man, aged 23, who is alleged to have been a passenger in the vehicle for a short time during the pursuit, was arrested at North St Marys a short time after he was let out.

He has been charged with be carried in conveyance taken w/o consent of owner and Custody of knife in public place.

The man was granted conditional bail to appear at Mt Druitt Local court on Wednesday 27 January 2021.
