A man will face court charged with alleged firearms offences following an investigation by Wollongong Police.
About 7.45pm on Sunday 1 March 2026, emergency services were called to a home on Greenslopes Avenue, Mount Ousley, following reports of a kitchen fire.
Fire and Rescue NSW attended and extinguished the fire; however, upon entry emergency services located a number of firearms allegedly stored unsafely.
Officers attached to Wollongong Police District attended and declared a crime scene and executed a search warrant on the property yesterday (Monday 2 March 2026).
A number of items were seized for forensic examination.
During the search warrant, police seized numerous firearms, along with numerous firearm parts, large quantities of ammunition and firearms related paraphernalia. Also seized was $121,650 in cash, which Police will allege in Court to be the proceeds of crime.
Following further inquiries, about 1.30pm, police arrested a 66-year-old man when he returned to the house.
The man was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with six offences - not keep firearm safe (three counts), firearms licensee not comply with safe storage needs, holder of firearms licence not have approved storage and deal with proceeds of crime - more than $100,000.
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division - Court 3 later today (Tuesday 3 March 2026).
