A 38yr old man from Stonehenge has been charged with a number of offences, including the crime of Trafficking in Firearms following an investigation by Tasmania Police.
Police attended a remote rural property on Wednesday this week where they recovered 18 firearms along with various types of ammunition. The firearms recovered included one each of category D & category C prohibited firearms, as well as 3 replica handguns.
The man has also been charged with Unlawful Possession relating to a large amount of property which included mountain bikes and an electric bike, heavy machinery parts, power tools including chainsaws and various hand tools. The value of this property is estimated to be in excess of $100,000. A stolen vehicle was also recovered from the property.
The man is to appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court later today.
Tasmania Police will continue our focus on recovering illicit firearms in the community and investigating any firearms theft to ensure the safety of all Tasmanians.
