Police charge man with fraud offences - Lakemba

A man will appear in court today charged over alleged fraud offences in Sydney's south west.

In December 2020, officers attached to Campsie Police Area Command commenced an investigation after receiving a report that a woman had been defrauded by a financial services business on Railway Parade, Lakemba.

Following extensive inquiries, a 39-year-old man was arrested at Campsie Police Station on Thursday 11 February 2021.

He was charged with two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Police will allege in court that the man defrauded a 40-year-old woman of nearly $25,000 as part of a fraudulent investment scheme.

A 40-year-old woman transferred $25,000 to participate in an investment scheme being promoted by a 39-year-old man.

Police will further allege the man did not hold the appropriate Australian Financial Services Licence for dealing with a financial product.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Tuesday 2 March 2021).
