Police charge man with fraud offences in Wollongong

A man will appear in court tomorrow after being charged with several fraud offences allegedly committed at businesses in Wollongong, NSW Police say.

Between 1.20am and 11.30am on Saturday 16 June 2018 several items were purchased at service stations and supermarkets in Wollongong.

Police were alerted to the use of a stolen credit card and officers from Wollongong Target Action Group commenced an investigation.

Shortly before midday today (Tuesday 19 June 2018), police executed a search warrant at a home in McKenzie Avenue at Wollongong.

Police will allege that during a search of the house they located identity information relating to more than 100 people.

The identity documents consisted of credit cards, driver’s licences, financial institution correspondence and other documentation.

Police will further allege that they seized the stolen credit card and items of clothing used during the commission of the offences.

A quantity of methamphetamine was also seized from the home.

A 45-year-old man was arrested at the premises and conveyed to Wollongong Police Station.

The man was charged with dishonestly obtain property by deception (x 3), possess identification information to commit an indictable offence and possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court tomorrow (Wednesday 20 June 2018).

Police are urging anyone with information in relation to this incident to call Crime Stoppers.
