Police charge man with lighting fire after domestic dispute at Tumut

A man has been charged after allegedly lighting a shed on fire in the state's south west.

About 4.50am yesterday (Monday 17 February 2020), emergency services were called to Lambie Street, Tumut, following reports a shed to the rear of a house was on fire.

Officers attached to Riverina Police District attended and established a crime scene.

Following investigations, a 46-year-old man - who is known to the residents of the property - was arrested and taken to Tumut Police Station.

Police allegedly located a lighter concealed within the man's clothing.

The man was charged with intimidation and damage property by fire. He was refused bail and is due to face Young Local Court today (Tuesday 18 February 2020).

As inquiries continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed an altercation in the area in the 24 hours prior, to contact Tumut police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
