Police charge man with manslaughter after death of 10-week-old baby - Bidwell

A man will appear in court today charged following the death of a baby in Sydney's west.

Emergency services were called to a home at Bidwell, about 10.15pm on Friday (13 December 2019), following reports a 10-week-old boy was unresponsive.

Police attended and commenced CPR prior to the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics.

The baby was taken to Mount Druitt Hospital before being transferred to The Children's Hospital at Westmead in a critical condition.

Despite the efforts of hospital staff, the boy died on Saturday (14 December 2019).

Detectives from Mount Druitt Police Area Command, assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad, established Strike Force Commera to investigate the circumstances surrounding the baby's death.

A post mortem examination determined the child died as a result of a significant brain injury.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives arrested a 24-year-old man at Mount Druitt Police Station just before 11pm yesterday (Monday 16 December 2018).

The man, who was known to the boy, was charged with manslaughter.

He was refused bail to appear at Mount Druitt Local Court today (Tuesday 17 December 2019).
