A man has been charged with manslaughter following an investigation by Lake Macquarie Detectives under Strike Force Lagrange.
On Thursday 22 May 2025, emergency services were called to a home on Lovell Street, Cardiff, following reports a man sustained a serious spinal injury and was unable to move.
The 46-year-old man was taken to the John Hunter Hospital and later transported to the Royal North Shore Hospital in a critical condition for the treatment of the spinal injury.
Despite medical efforts, the man died in hospital on Monday 2 June 2025.
Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the man's death continued by Lake Macquarie Police District under Strike Force Lagrange.
Following extensive inquiries, police arrested a 48-year-old man at a home on Alister Street, Shortland, about 8.30am yesterday (Thursday 25 September 2025).
Police will allege in court that the younger man sustained the injury during a physical altercation where he was allegedly tackled by the older man.
The older man was taken to Waratah Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter (DV).
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 yesterday (Thursday 25 September 2025), where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 26 November 2025.
