Police charge man with murder - Pyrmont

A man has been charged with murder over the alleged fatal stabbing of another man in Sydney yesterday.

About 8am (Thursday 16 July 2020), emergency services were called to an apartment complex on Bunn Street, Pyrmont, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers from Sydney City Police Area Command attended and found a 44-year-old man suffering stab wounds. He died at the scene.

A crime scene was established, which was examined by specialist forensic police. Detectives established Strike Force Azoic to investigate the man's death.

Following inquiries, a 41-year-old man was arrested just after 7pm yesterday on Macquarie Street near Smith Street, Parramatta, before being taken to Westmead Hospital under police guard for observation.

Upon release from hospital, the man was taken to Parramatta Police Station, where detectives charged him with murder.

Police will allege in court that the men – who were known to each other – were involved in an argument before the younger man stabbed the older man multiple times and left the scene.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court tomorrow (Saturday 18 July 2020).
