Police charge pair after pursuit and foot chase through shopping centre at Dubbo

A man and woman have been charged with multiple offences after a pursuit and foot chase through a shopping centre in the state's west earlier in the week.

About 7.35am on Tuesday 27 August 2019, officers attached to Orana Mid Western Police District were patrolling Erskine Street, Dubbo, when they observed a Land Rover Freelander which checks revealed was reported stolen the day before.

A pursuit was initiated when the Land Rover allegedly failed to stop when directed, which continued through the streets of Dubbo, before being terminated due to safety concerns near Wheelers Lane.

Shortly after, patrolling police located the vehicle in the rear carpark of a shopping centre on Windsor Parade, and saw a man and woman run into the shopping centre.

Police chased the pair through the shopping centre, with a security officer and member of the public attempting to stop the man.

The 25-year-old woman and 18-year-old man were arrested by police in the carpark of the shopping centre and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

A woman was charged with aggravated break and enter, steal motor vehicle, be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner (x2), owner not disclose identity of driver/passenger (x3), and passenger not disclose driver's/other passenger's identity.

The man was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive recklessly (2nd offence), and drive while licence cancelled.

Police will allege in court that the Land Rover was stolen from a property on the Castlereagh Highway near Lithgow on Monday 26 August 2019.

The pair were refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday 27 August 2019 to reappear at the same court on Monday 14 October 2019.
