Police Charge Teen After Pursuit, Crash - Vaucluse

About 11.20pm last night (Sunday 20 July 2025), officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command attempted to stop a vehicle on Hopetoun Avenue, Vaucluse, when it was seen speeding.

When the driver did not stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated but was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

A short time later, the vehicle was found to have crashed down an embankment on the same street.

The driver of the car – a 18-year-old male – was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to St Vincent's hospital as a precaution.

He was released later today and taken to Waverley Police Station where he was charged with three offences:

  • Exceed speed over 20km/h
  • Drive motor vehicle while license suspended
  • Police pursuit drive recklessly

He was granted conditional bail to appear in the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday 13 August 2025

Three passengers – two teenage boys and a teenage girl – were not injured.
