Police charge teen over stabbing at Tweed Heads

A teenager has been charged over an alleged stabbing on the state's Far North Coast yesterday.

About 1.10pm (Tuesday 24 August 2021), emergency services were called to the intersection of Blundell Boulevard and Minjumbal Drive, Tweed Heads, following reports of a stabbing.

Officers from Tweed/Byron Police District attended and located a 16-year-old boy with hand and shoulder injuries.

Following a short foot pursuit, a 17-year-old boy was arrested and also found to have an injured hand.

Both teenagers were taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for treatment.

The older boy was released from hospital and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, where he was charged with attempt to murder.

He was refused bail and will appear in a children's court today (Wednesday 25 August 2021).
