Police charge teen over two armed robberies across Sydney’s west

Detectives investigating a series of armed robberies in Sydney’s west in recent weeks have charged a teenage boy over his alleged role in two of the incidents.

Just after 5.30pm on Thursday 15 August 2019, two men – one armed with a pistol – entered a mixed business on the corner of Water Street and Woodburn Road, Auburn.

One of the men threatened an employee and demanded cash, before the pair left the premises with cash and cigarettes.

In separate incident, three men – one armed with firearm – entered a business on George Street, Clyde, about 8pm on Wednesday 21 August 2019.

The men attempted to gain entry through a second door, however, they were unsuccessful and left the premises. They were last seen running southbound along George Street.

A short time later (about 8.30pm on Wednesday 21 August 2019), two men – armed with a knife and a firearm – entered a mixed business at the intersection of Cumberland and Albert roads, Auburn.

The men threatened two employees and demanded cash, before fleeing the premises empty handed.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad established Strike Force Browallia to investigate the armed robberies.

Strike Force Browallia detectives are also investigating a fourth armed robbery, which occurred about 8.20pm last Friday (13 September 2019), which is also believed to be linked.

Police were told a man armed with a knife, entered a mixed business on the corner of Water Street and Woodburn Road, Auburn, and threatened two employees – a 73-year-old man and a nine-year-old girl – before fleeing the scene with cash and cigarettes.

Following extensive inquiries, strike force detectives executed two search warrants at homes in South Granville and Berala about 7.30am today (Tuesday 17 September 2019).

During the search, officers seized a Toyota Camry, mobile phones and clothing.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested at the South Granville home and taken to Granville Police Station.

He was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon and attempt robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.

Police will allege in court that the teen was involved in the armed robbery at Auburn on Thursday 15 August 2019 and the attempted armed robbery at Clyde on Wednesday 21 August 2019.

The teen was refused bail to appear at a children’s court today.

Investigations under Strike Force Browallia are continuing, and further arrests are expected.
