Police Charge Teens After Break And Enter And Pursuit

Two teens will appear in court today charged following an alleged break and enter and pursuit in the States Northern Rivers Region.

Operation Regional Mongoose North was established to target property offences, including vehicle thefts and break and enter offences, throughout Richmond, Tweed Byron and Coffs Clarence Police Districts.

Officers attached to Richmond Police District commenced an investigation following reports of a break and enter at a home on Taylor Avenue, Goonellabah, between 12am and 1.30am on Sunday (7 April 2024).

Police were told a red Honda Civic was allegedly stolen from the location.

About 2.25am, officers received another report of an alleged break and enter in Calnan Crescent, Cumbalum, where the Honda was seen leaving.

The Honda was later seen on the Bruxner Highway, Woolongbar, and allegedly failed to stop when directed by officers and a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit travelled through the townships of Woolongbar, Lindendale, Lismore and Woodburn, covering over approximately 50km, before road spikes were successfully deployed and the came to a stop on Cedar Street, Woodburn.

The two male occupants exited the vehicle and after a short foot pursuit, they were arrested in the town drain.

The two boys, aged 14 and 15, were taken to Lismore Police Station.

The younger boy was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence, take & drive conveyance without consent of owner and police pursuit - not stop - drive at speed.

The older boy was charged with aggravated break and enter commit serious indictable offence and be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were both refused bail to appear before a children's court today (Monday 8 April 2024).
