Police charge three after copper theft - Thornton

Three men have been charged following an alleged copper theft at Thornton on Sunday night.

About 10.30pm on Sunday (25 June 2023), police were called to a business on Glenwood Drive, Thornton, following reports copper wire was being stolen.

At the scene, police located three men allegedly hiding in bushland possessing gloves, face coverings, cutting tools and copper wire.

The three men, one aged 34, and two aged 49, were arrested at the scene before being taken to Maitland Police Station.

The 34-year-old man was charged with two counts of enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, destroy or damage property, larceny, face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, and possess housebreaking implements.

Both 49-year-old men were charged with enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse, larceny, and possess housebreaking implements.

All three appeared before Maitland Local Court on Monday 26 June 2023 where the 34-year-old was granted conditional bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 9 August 2023, and the 49-year-old men were granted condition bail to appear on Thursday 13 July 2023.
