Police charge three after investigation into motor vehicle thefts at Dubbo

A man and two teenagers have been charged as part of ongoing investigations into the theft of multiple vehicles in the state's Orana region.

Earlier this month, officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation into reports of multiple aggravated break and enters, and motor vehicle thefts in Dubbo between Monday 25 January 2021 and last Tuesday (2 February 2021).

As part of investigations, a 14-year-old boy was arrested at Dubbo Police Station about 11.30am last Thursday (4 February 2021).

He was charged with 22 offences:

  • Never licensed person drive on road
  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – people there
  • Six counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Two counts of destroy or damage property – less than $5000
  • Two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company intend steal – less than $60,000
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Three counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception
  • Five counts of enter building/ land with intent commit indictable offence
  • Police pursuit

The boy was refused and appeared at a children's court last Friday (5 February 2021) where he was formally refused bail to reappear before the same court next Monday (15 February 2021).

About 11am on Friday (5 February 2021), police arrested a 22-year-old man on Church Street, Dubbo.

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with 18 offences:

  • Aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence – people there
  • Aggravated enter dwelling with intent – knowing people there
  • Steal property in dwelling/ house
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception
  • Four counts of enter building/ land with intent to commit indictable offence
  • Four counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner
  • Receive motor vehicle part-theft – serious indictable offence – more than $5000
  • Custody of knife in public place
  • Possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit
  • Possess prohibited drug

The man was refused bail and appeared before Dubbo Local Court on Saturday (6 February 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today (Monday 8 February 2021).

Following further inquiries, a second 14-year-old boy was arrested at a home in Dubbo about 9.20pm on Saturday (6 February 2021).

He was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with 11 offences:

  • Ever licensed person drive vehicle on road
  • Be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner
  • Two counts of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception
  • Four counts of enter building/ land with intent to commit indictable offence; and
  • Three counts of take and drive conveyance without consent of owner

The teen was refused bail and appeared at a children's court yesterday (Sunday 7 February 2021), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court today (Monday 8 February 2021).

Investigations continue.
