Police charge two after crash involving stolen car - Marrickville

A man and a woman have been charged following a crash involving a stolen car at Marrickville earlier this week.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command were travelling on Victoria Road about 8.50pm on Monday (28 June 2021), when they saw a VW Golf sedan which had been reported stolen from Glebe.

Police activated their warning lights to stop the driver; however, the vehicle accelerated through the intersection of Sydenham Road and hit an SUV.

The driver of the sedan, a 43-year-old man, got out of the car and collapsed with police performing CPR until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. A 38-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the sedan, was trapped for a short time before being released.

The driver of the SUV, a 63-year-old man, was also trapped and had to be released by officers attached to Police Rescue.

They were all taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.

A crime scene was established as officers commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Following inquiries, detectives attended the hospital and charged the 43-year-old man with aggravated dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-escaping pursuit, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-drive manner dangerous, drive furiously in motor vehicle do/cause bodily harm, police pursuit-not stop-drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm) and negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm).

The woman was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

They were both refused bail and appeared at Newtown Local Court via bedside hearing today (Wednesday 30 June 2021), where the man was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 15 July 2021.

The woman was granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Thursday 5 August 2021.
