Police charge two after investigation into drug importation - Riverina

A woman and a man have been charged following an investigation into the importation of prohibited drugs in the Riverina region.

In April, officers attached to Murrumbidgee Police District's Criminal Investigations Unit commenced an investigation to target the importation of Ketamine within the Murrumbidgee Police District, particularly, the West Wyalong area.

On Saturday 24 April 2021, police seized a package addressed to a unit at West Wyalong, which allegedly contained 3.8kg of Ketamine, with an estimated value of about $500,000.

Police will allege the package was imported from overseas.

Following inquiries, on Tuesday 4 May 2021, executed a search warrant at a unit on Dumeresq Street, West Wyalong.

A 21-year-old woman was arrested and taken to West Wyalong Police Station.

Following further investigations, a 24-year-old man was arrested at a workplace at Lake Cowal a short time later.

Both were charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border-controlled drug.

They were refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Wednesday 5 May 2021).
