Police charge two after pursuit at Newcastle

Two people have been charged following a pursuit through Newcastle and Lake Macquarie overnight.

About 12.30am (Wednesday 29 March 2023), police from Newcastle City Police District were patrolling Lookout Road, New Lambton Heights, when they attempted to stop an allegedly stolen vehicle.

When the vehicle failed to stop as directed, a police pursuit was initiated; however, was terminated a short time later due to safety concerns.

Road spikes were successfully deployed at Kotara South, with the vehicle coming to a stop a short time later.

A 22-year-old man and 41-year-old woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Waratah Police Station.

The 22-year-old man was charged with five offences including police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive conveyance taken without consent of owner, drive motor vehicle while licence suspended, use class A vehicle displaying misleading etc number-plate, and receive etc property stolen outside NSW.

The 41-year-old woman was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.

Both were refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court today (Wednesday 29 March 2023).
