Police charge two men with falsely reporting armed robbery at UTAB Derwent Park

Police investigating the armed robbery at UTAB Derwent Park on 15 April have charged two men with falsely reporting a crime and stealing.

Glenorchy CIB members today charged a 19-year-old Berriedale man and a 19-year-old Lenah Valley man with False Report to Police and Stealing. They will both appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court in June.

"Crimes such as Armed Robbery have the potential to cause alarm and apprehension in the community," said Detective Acting Inspector Gill.

"The police investigation into the armed robbery reported to have occurred at the UTAB on Derwent Park Road on 15 April determined that an armed robbery did not occur.

"Significant police resources were employed to investigate this matter and it is disappointing those resources were diverted to investigate a false report.

"I'd like to thank those members of the community who provided information that assisted the police investigation," said Detective Acting Inspector Gill.
