Police continue investigation after brawl in Leichhardt

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a large brawl at a bar in Leichhardt overnight, NSW Police say.

About 11.30pm today emergency services were called to a licensed premise on Norton Street after reports that a large number of patrons were brawling.

Police have been told that the brawl commenced when two women, who are known to each other, became involved in a physical altercation.

Many other patrons, both men and women also reportedly became involved in the melee.

Upon arrival at the location police from Leichhardt Local Area Command observed that many patrons had already left and a large amount of damage had been occasioned to the venue.

A 30-year-old woman was treated for a sprained ankle and the loss of some hair from her head.

A 33-year-old woman was treated for injured fingers after losing a number of false nails during the altercation.

The older woman was arrested and taken to Newtown Police Station. She was later released pending further inquiries.

Investigators have numerous witnesses to speak to but at this time there have been no charges or reports of serious injury.

Anyone with information or mobile phone footage of the incident is urged to come forward.
