Police Dive Squad make a splash on Juiced TV

The Queensland Police Service made a guest appearance on Juiced TV last month, after members of the Dive Squad stopped by the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital., Queensland Police say>

The aquatic-based episode aired on January 16, and host for the week Kiah clearly had a blast interviewing Dive Squad Officer Senior Constable James Hall and learning about the specialist police role.

During the segment, Senior Constable Hall was asked what he enjoyed most about being a Police Diver.

"The best part of the job is working with a small and tight unit, where we’re all pretty good mates and we all get on well," Senior Constable Hall said.

"The jobs are always challenging, so you always feel challenged and I like that about the job."

Importantly given the time of year, Senior Constable Hall provided a number of water-based safety tips for the children viewing the episode. These included;

  • Always swim with an adult.
  • Be aware of underwater dangers/depth.
  • Never go into swift-water.

The officers also engaged the children with an equipment demonstration, which
included a shark shield, metal detector and diving apparatus.

The program was a great opportunity to engage and educate the community, which Dive Squad Officer In Charge Sergeant Andrew Bauer stated was an integral aspect of Queensland Policing, regardless of location or unit.

"To have the officers presence put smiles on the children’s faces was very rewarding," Sergeant Andrew Bauer said.

Juiced TV is a show that is filmed and broadcasted at the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, and gives unwell children the chance to host their own show. This provides entertainment and education to the children in the wards, and is a great experience for the children who appear on the program.
