Police football teams converge on Hobart for national carnival next week, TAS

Tasmania is hosting the 30th National Police Football Championships which will be held at North Hobart Oval from October 8-12, Tasmania Police say.

The championship has grown from an annual match between Tasmania and New South Wales Police in the 1970s, to a national event held every October in a different state. Tasmania has never won the championships in 30 attempts, but has come close each time it has been held in Tasmania.

Over 200 interstate police and support staff will travel to Hobart to play in this year’s championships, which comprises nine games over three competition days, with a day break between each game.  Each team will play three games and the championship is decided by the team with the highest win/loss or percentage.
