Police HQ fires up the BBQ for men’s health

The Queensland Police Service has shown its support for International Men’s Day this afternoon by holding a sausage sizzle fundraiser, Queensland Police say.

Police officers and staff of Police Headquarters ascended upstairs to queue for a traditional fundraising icon; the snag on bread. The food was deemed popular among hungry staff, and word soon spread throughout the building resulting in an ever-evolving queue.

International Men’s Day was created with the purpose of focusing on men’s and boy’s health, improving gender relations, promoting gender equality and highlighting positive male role models. It is an occasion to highlight discrimination against men and boys and to celebrate their achievements and contributions, in particular contributions to community, family, marriage and child care.

Funds were also raised through raffles that were available for purchase.

All money raised today will be donated to YoungCare, who was selected by the 2017 International Women’s Day Event as the recipient of the fundraising. YoungCare is an organisation that is committed to helping young Aussies with high-care needs live life with choice, independence and dignity.
