Police Intercept Drink Driver Due To Community Tip-off

A 32 year old Penguin man has been charged with drink driving after being detected with more than double the legal limit last night.

Last night at approximately 6.45pm, Tasmania Police were contacted via Triple Zero (000) regarding dangerous driver behaviour observed on the Bass Highway between Devonport and Ulverstone.

Thanks to the vigilance of an alert community member, police located the vehicle a short time later. The driver, who underwent breath analysis, returned an alarming reading of 0.102 - more than double the legal limit.

A 32-year-old Penguin man has been arrested and charged with drink driving and will face the Devonport Magistrates Court at a later date.

Acting Inspector Luke Negri said that community members who take the time to report dangerous driving play a vital role in keeping our roads safe.

"That information allows police to identify risks early and take action before someone is seriously hurt or killed," Acting Inspector Negri said.

Anyone with information about dangerous driving is urged to contact police on 131 444, or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
