Police investigate child approach in Wollongong

Police have commenced inquiries after a child was approached by an unknown man in Wollongong yesterday.

The 12-year-old boy was walking along Cranford Lane at Figtree about 3pm Tuesday, when a man approached him.

The man repeatedly urged the boy to leave the area with him but he managed to run home and alert his parents.

Police were contacted and officers from Wollongong Local Area Command attended and conducted a canvass of the area.

Detectives are appealing for public assistance in an attempt to identify and locate the man involved.

He’s described as being aged in his 30s, with medium build and was wearing a grey and white shirt.

Police have been told the man walked with a slight limp.

Anyone who saw the man or has information that can assist is urged to contact investigators.
