Police investigate $20,000 copper theft in Port Melbourne

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives are investigating following the theft of copper in Port Melbourne last month.

At least two men attended the Bridge Street scrap metal yard about 3.30am on Tuesday, 23 February.

Investigators believe the pair were driving a silver Ford Territory with a trailer attached at the time when they drove into the yard and loaded a large amount of copper into the trailer before driving off.

The copper is valued up to $20,000.

Investigators have released CCTV of two men they believe will be able to assist with their investigation and urge anyone who recognises the pair to contact them.

Both males are perceived to be Caucasian in appearance.

The first male was wearing a blue cap, black face mask, high vis t-shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.

The second man believed to be aged between 40 and 50 with a medium build and approximately xxx cm tall.

He also had a face mask on at the time and was wearing a black long sleeve top, dark coloured pants and shoes.
