Police investigate Altona Meadows assault

Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit detectives will be conducting a door knock today as part of an ongoing investigation into an assault in Altona Meadows last October, Victoria Police say.

Investigators have been told the victim attended a residential address on Oakdene Grove South on Saturday 15 October 2016 about midday where he was assaulted by a number of men.

The victim, a 34-year-old Fawkner man, received serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

Detectives have interviewed a 34-year-old Altona Meadows man in relation to the assault and have released him pending further enquiries.

Investigators have arrested five men in relation to an aggravated burglary which occurred at the same address on Thursday 13 October 2016.

A man and woman were home at the time of incident and fled from the house, jumping the back fence and hiding in a neighbour’s backyard while the men searched through the house.

Police have charged a 20-year-old Oakleigh man, 20-year-old Dandenong North man and a 16-year-old Keysborough boy with aggravated burglary, theft, theft of motor vehicle and criminal damage.

The Oakleigh and Dandenong North man have been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court in February.

The Keysborough teen has been remanded to appear at a children’s court at a later date.

Detectives from the Hobsons Bay Crime Investigation Unit will be conducting a door knock today at 10am in Altona Meadows in the hopes local residents might have some information on the assault.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the assault and anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
