Police investigate church robbery

Port Phillip Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating following an assault and robbery inside a church in South Melbourne on 5 December, Victoria Police say.

At around 5pm on Dorcas Street the unknown offender punched a 66-year old woman to the head and grabbed her handbag before pushing her to the ground.

He then fled the scene via the front door and was seen leaving a café next door to the church minutes later.

The offender is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, aged in his 30s, tanned skin, short brown hair and a medium build.

He was wearing a grey t-shirt, blue three-quarter length jeans and carrying a hat.

The victim was shaken up following the incident and spent the night in hospital as a precaution.

Detectives have released images and CCTV of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
