Detectives from Maroondah Crime Investigation Unit (CIU) are investigating after a man set fire to a petrol bowser in Croydon North last month.

Investigators have been told a male attended a service station on Maroondah Highway just after 4am on Sunday, 7 February.

He removed the fuel pump from a bowser and ignited the pump handle with a cigarette lighter, causing the residual fuel to burn.

The male dropped the bowser and fled on foot east on Maroondah Highway.

He is perceived to be Caucasian in appearance, approximately 183cm tall with blonde hair, medium build and aged in his late 40s to early 50s.

At the time of the offence he was wearing a blue jacket, black pants and black shoes.
