On Friday 23 September, the 29-year-old inmate was conveyed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital following an incident at the prison, according to SA Police.
In the early hours of this morning, the man formerly from Andrew's Farm died in hospital.
Major Crime Detectives are assisting with the investigation.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
