Police investigate Eastern suburbs collisions

Police are investigating after a truck driver failed to stop at the scene of three collisions in the eastern suburbs yesterday, Victoria Police say.

Greensborough Highway Patrol members have been told a truck travelling north on Bourke Road, Kew side swiped a white Mercedes SUV about 11.40am.

It’s alleged the truck driver failed to stop and continued along Bourke Road where the Mercedes driver followed him.

The tray truck driver allegedly side swiped another vehicle on Bourke Road North, Ivanhoe, again failing to stop.

It’s further alleged he then collided into the rear of a red vehicle at the roundabout at the intersection of Burke Road North and Lower Heidelberg Road, Ivanhoe East, failing to stop.

The truck driver then intentionally collided into the rear of the Mercedes SUV while it was stationary at red traffic lights at the intersection of Lower Heidelberg Road and Banksia Street, Heidelberg.

The impact caused the SUV to collide into two other stationary vehicles before the truck sped off north along Rosanna Road, failing to stop and render assistance.

Greensborough Highway Patrol members intercepted the truck a short time later on the Metropolitan Ring Road, Thomastown and spoke to the 39-year-old driver.

The Sunbury man was released pending further enquiries.

The driver of the Mercedes, a 47-year-old Hawthorn East man, sustained a fractured spine and was transported to hospital.

Police are keen to speak to the drivers of the two vehicles that were also struck by the truck and anyone who may have witnessed the collisions.

Anyone with Dash Cam footage or information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
